Title

Getting to university: a study about and with the entrants of the Pedagogy course at Unicamp

Abstract

The research is inscribed in the scenario of expansion of access to higher education and diversification of the student public in Brazil in the last two decades and focuses on students entering the Pedagogy course at Unicamp. Its main objectives are: i) to understand the phenomena of evasion and student permanence, notably, the factors associated with failure and success of students in the course and, in a broad way, in the university; ii) to promote, through the accomplishment of the research, a greater engagement of the students in the course and in the university; iii) to provide a first approach of these students with research activities. The study, of qualitative character, mobilizes different research strategies and data sources: collection and analysis of statistical data processed by Comvest, DAC, SAE, SAPPE related to Pedagogy students (and of Unicamp in a compared perspective); interviews with members of the course coordination and of university organs of support to the students and their analysis; application of questionnaires to students; analysis of the diaries voluntarily produced by the students. Inspired by the works of Coulon (2005) and Pinte (2018), the research design foresees the involvement of students (especially entrants) in several stages, from data production (making the diaries), application of questionnaires to more advanced students and discussion of the results.
