In 2015, the Pankararu territory had 20 schools, a School Museum, approximately 200 indigenous teachers and 3,000 students. The aim of this article is to analyze the use, attribution of meaning, interpretations and incorporation of writing by Amerindians. By analyzing the ethnographic case of the Wayãpi (Brazil and French Guiana), and comparing it with other relevant examples, we seek to demonstrate, through an approximation between writing and graphic/aesthetic practices, that writing is attributed, in addition to political and symbolic functions, divinatory or shamanic power of wide communicative scope.
